 courses in Dukhan
In 2003, QR. Dukhan is administered by Qatar's state oil agency Qatar Petroleum and is the site of the first oil discovery in Qatar.

Dukhan rose to prominence after the discovery of its oil , first of its kind in Qatar.

. 3 billion project was launched to ensure the overall development of the city. By the 2oth century offshoot settlements were established away from the initial ones around oil rigging sites and the city gradually evolved around these settlements. The residential areas of Dukhan were primarily around the oil camps but as the population doubled in size, it started to expand away from the camps. Dukhan literally translates to Smoky mountains in reference to its smoke clad skies and mountain tops, mostly owing to the smoke rising from gas flares around the oil camps.
