 courses in Al Rayyan
Unlike other Qatari cities Al Rayyan does not have the benefit of a coastline and maritime income. As it is situated at a low elevation it acts as a floodplain to provide irrigation to numerous flora and fauna that grow within. Though it is the 3rd largest municipality in Qatar, the market of this area is limited to agricultural and fresh produces.

Al Rayyan receives its name from the Arabic word “Ray” which means irrigation. Al Rayyan is often considered an urban offshoot of metropolitan Doha. Al Rayyan Municipality came into existence as an independent municipal administration in 1972. Nomadic livestock herding was part of the Al Rayyan livelihood.

. Because of its geography, Al Rayyan's income is mostly agriculture oriented.
